Concepts - I believe the best approach to teaching and learning is to develop a well rounded practice routine which will be written out for you until you understand how to develop your own. Below is a more in depth list of some of the concepts i teach;


Music Styles - Rock, Blues, Metal, Acoustic Folk, Country classical, Spanish, Funk, Jazz, Fusion, Latin, Alternative, Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Punk, Reggae...

Playing Styles - The study of solo's, rhythm & phrasing from the playing tyles of legends such as, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Gary More, Stevie Ray, Jeff Beck, Steve Via, Joe Satriani, Robben Ford, ric Johnson,  Wes Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Rodrigo & Gabriella, Keith Richards, Slash, Tom Merello...  with emphasis on a range of their techniques from alternative tunings, finger style to tone, tricks, and effects.

            
Songs - Song choice can be pretty much up to you, here is a wide list to get you started, G&R, AC.DC, Green Day, Bon Jovi, Nirvana, Chill Peppers, James Brown, Prince, Maiden, Metallica, U2, Beatles, Cold Play, Stones, Trivium, Sevenfold,  Foo Fighters, Muse, MCR,  Sum 41, Arctic Monkeys, Killers...  


Improvising - Lead & rhythm guitarist will work n analysing chord progressions using the roman numeral system, to gain understanding of scale choice & chord substitution to help you create great solos and interesting harmony. Understanding guitar effects (delay, chorus, distortion, wah and other pedals...) & using them in your performance.


Single String - Scales, modes, arpeggios. Technical development of speed in alternate economy & sweep picking, palm muting, string damping and bending, Legato, tapping, pinched harmonics, octaves, vibrato, licks & phrases...

 

Fingerboard - Develop rhythm & groove, learning chord voicings, open & barre. Extensions, (6.7.9.11.13.) major, minor, suspended, power chords dominants, altered, slash chords. Using the CAGED system,

 

Harmony & Theory - Reading, note values, key & time signatures, intervals.ear training,chord construction, harmonizing scales,modalinterchange... Read and write your own charts.Recognition and transcription of songs by ear.

 

RGT Exams - I will guide you through taking & achieving your exam grades with Registry of Guitar Tutors. (See Exam Page for details).

Recording - As a guitarist learn to layer & track guitars, mic positioning,using effects & mixing to recreat sounds. Learn to use Logic Pro to record your songs plus many more techniques to help you operate in studio.As a songwriter learn tips & tricks on how to improve your song writing   techniques, how to recreate recordings in the style of your favourite songs.Basic music technology and production for all. Artists & songwriters canrecord their own music/songs using my facilities. (See recording page)


Master Class
- Live performance and band skills. Instrument maintenance & repair.Music business advice (booking gigs,labels, publishing, copywriting, producing and promoting your demo & personal career planning). - I will guide you through taking & achieving your exam grades with Registry of Guitar Tutors.
